Pediatric Endodontics
Specialized Root Canal Care for Children and Teens
Children and adolescents sometimes require endodontic treatment due to deep decay, infection, or dental trauma. Our pediatric-focused approach combines advanced clinical techniques with compassionate care to ensure young patients feel safe, supported, and comfortable throughout treatment.
We work closely with families to explain every step of the process and tailor care to each child’s unique needs.
Treatment for Primary (Baby) Teeth
Primary teeth play an essential role in guiding the proper development and alignment of permanent teeth. When a baby tooth becomes infected or damaged, preserving it is often important to maintain spacing and reduce the need for future orthodontic treatment.
In many cases, a modified form of root canal therapy can be performed with predictable, long-term success, allowing the tooth to function normally until it is naturally replaced.
Managing Dental Injuries in Children
Traumatic dental injuries in growing patients require specialized evaluation and treatment planning. Depending on the condition of the tooth, one of the following procedures may be recommended:
-
Apexogenesis
-
When the nerve tissue is exposed but remains healthy, apexogenesis may be performed to encourage continued root development. A protective medication is placed over the pulp to preserve vitality and support natural growth.
-
-
Apexification
-
When the nerve tissue is no longer viable, apexification is used to stabilize the root. Modern techniques utilize biocompatible materials, such as mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA), to seal the root tip and allow for immediate canal filling. In select cases, regenerative therapies may also be considered to promote healing.
