Sedation Therapy
Comfort-Focused Care for a Relaxed Experience
At 121 Endodontics, your comfort is a top priority. We offer multiple levels of sedation tailored to your individual needs, anxiety level, and treatment plan.
Many of our patients are so relaxed during treatment that they fall asleep naturally, even without medication. For those who prefer additional support, we provide safe, effective sedation options designed to make your visit as stress-free as possible.
Levels of Sedation
Mild Sedation
Mild sedation promotes deep relaxation while allowing you to remain awake and responsive. It may be provided through nitrous oxide (laughing gas) or a prescribed oral medication.
With mild sedation, you remain aware during treatment, but stress and tension are significantly reduced.
Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas)
Nitrous oxide is a gentle, fast-acting form of light sedation that is commonly used in dentistry.
-
Provides relaxation throughout the procedure
-
Wears off quickly after treatment
-
Allows most patients to drive themselves home
-
Safe and carefully monitored
-
You remain in control of breathing and bodily functions
Some patients may experience mild drowsiness or partial memory loss of the appointment.
Combined Sedation
Combined sedation uses a combination of oral medication and nitrous oxide to create a deeper state of relaxation.
Patients often describe this as a “twilight” experience, where time feels shortened and procedures feel easier.
-
You remain responsive to verbal cues
-
Pain and discomfort are minimized
-
Memory of the procedure may be limited
-
A companion is required for transportation home
This option is ideal for patients with moderate dental anxiety or longer treatment appointments.
Intravenous (IV) Sedation
IV sedation produces a deeper, sleep-like state where patients are minimally aware of the procedure.
-
Provides profound relaxation
-
Carefully monitored throughout treatment
-
Highly predictable and effective
-
Ideal for complex procedures or significant anxiety
-
A companion is required for transportation home
Patients typically remember little to none of the procedure.
General Anesthesia
General anesthesia provides the deepest level of sedation, allowing patients to sleep throughout treatment.
It is administered and monitored in-office using hospital-grade equipment by our anesthesiology team, ensuring the highest level of safety and care.
This option is most often recommended for young children, special needs patients, or complex treatment cases.
Expert Anesthesia Care
General anesthesia and advanced sedation services are provided by
Dr. Richard Marn, a dual board-certified anesthesiologist and pediatric anesthesiologist trained at NYU and Johns Hopkins Hospital.
Dr. Marn and his team deliver safe, high-quality anesthesia services in the comfort of our office, working closely with our doctors and clinical staff to ensure every patient receives exceptional care.
Personalized Sedation Planning
Every patient’s comfort needs are different. During your consultation, we will review your medical history, treatment plan, and preferences to recommend the most appropriate sedation option for you or your child.
Our goal is to help you feel calm, confident, and supported at every stage of care.
